US Immigration Agency Closes H1B Visa Lottery for FY 2025 Informs Beneficiaries.

The US immigration agency has notified the conclusion of the lottery to opt for recipients for popular American H1B visas.

This action happened after the initial H1B sign-up period for the fiscal year 2025 expired on March 25, based on United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). In an update on X, USCIS acknowledged random picks and distribution of notices to ‘myUSCIS’ accounts.

Before that, a technical fault on the USCIS website forced a three-day break from the deadline for visa applications for the financial year 2025, changing its date from March 22 to March 25. Despite the delay, USCIS reassured potential petitioners that they would be notified to ensure their eligibility for submitting a petition pursuant to the H1B quota.

The demand for H-1B visas frequently exceeds the yearly quota of 85,000, requiring USCIS to utilize a lottery mechanism to choose winners. Indian computer experts have been notable beneficiaries of H1B cap-subject visas in recent years, acquiring over 70% of the 85,000 visas offered, including the 20,000 master’s quota for holders with advanced US degrees.

However, USCIS predicts a fall in applications this year, attributing the decrease to stronger efforts to prevent fraud. Beginning next month, USCIS will transfer the H-1B Form I-129 filing site to a lockbox, forcing all paper-based applications to be transmitted to USCIS lockbox facilities. It is crucial to remember that there will be no grace period for petitions acquired at USCIS service offices on or after April 1, 2024.

We’re continually searching for methods to reinforce integrity and restrict the possibility for fraud while refining and expediting our application processes, USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou stated in January. The improvements in these fields should make H-1B selections easier for petitioners and beneficiaries and enable for the H-1B processes to be entirely digital from registration, if applicable, until final decision and transmission of granted petitions to the Department of State.
