UK work visa: The Home Office recently stated that they will shortly do away with the requirement to renew sponsor licenses every four years, which is a huge relief to both companies and foreign nationals living in the UK. Employers in the nation, who hitherto had to cope with a ton of paperwork and expensive fees to retain staff, will find this to be a huge help.

As per the information provided on by UK Visas and Immigration, a UK sponsor license is mandatory for those who wish to hire non-UK nationals, including citizens of EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, who arrived in the UK after December 31, 2020. Education providers also need a sponsor license in order to bring professors and students from outside to the UK. This is all the information you require:

What is the new rule:

  • starting on April 6, there will be no more requirements for sponsor license renewals every four years.

  • Sponsor licenses that are about to expire will be automatically extended by ten years once it begins, meaning there won't be any need for renewals at all.

  •  Sponsors having active licenses during this period need not do anything; the extension will take care of their licenses automatically.

What were the previous rules?

  • Previously, companies that sponsored licenses had to apply 90 days prior to the licenses expiring.
  • Moreover, they had to pay a substantial cost, ranging from £536 to £1,476 depending on their size and charitable status.
  •  Renewal processing periods may take up to eight weeks.

In the renewal procedure, the UK Home Office will reimburse application fees to sponsors; however, sponsors are urged to use the online Sponsorship Management System (SMS) to confirm the expiration date of their license. It stated that contacts had been made with sponsors who have already started the renewal process.

In the UK, immigration has always been a sensitive topic. The administration of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak intends to raise the expense of recruiting foreign workers, with a significant rise in pay requirements announced in December.
