New Zealands Ukraine Resident Scheme Visa Opens March 16

New Zealand's Ukraine Resident Visa, launched on March 16, permits Ukrainians with a 2022 Special Ukraine Visa and their family to live, work, and study there.

The Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment invites applications before March 16, 2026. To be eligible for this visa, applicants must have entered New Zealand on a 2022 Special Ukraine Visa by March 15, 2024.

In a recent announcement, New Zealand has stated that the Ukraine Resident Visa program will begin on March 16 and will continue to be operational for a period of two years.

The visa grants Ukrainians who have obtained a 2022 Special Ukraine Visa the ability to permanently reside, work, and study in New Zealand. Additionally, the visa applies to their partners and children.

Application submissions must be submitted on or before March 16, 2026, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment.

It is necessary for candidates to have arrived in New Zealand on a 2022 Special Ukraine Visa on or before March 15, 2024 in order to be eligible for this visa.

The same source stated that expressions of interest (EOIs) from new applicants for this visa would close on March 15, while highlighting that those currently in New Zealand on a Special Ukraine visa are eligible to apply for additional 2022 Special Ukraine Visas while in shelter in New Zealand or awaiting the outcome of their Ukraine Resident Visa application.

Two years since the introduction of the special Ukraine visa.

The New Zealand government has announced the 2022 Special Ukraine Policy, which would allow New Zealand citizens and residents born in Ukraine, as well as Ukrainian nationals, to sponsor Ukrainian family members and their immediate relatives.

The 2022 Special Ukraine visa was designed to assist those escape Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Successful candidates under the age of 18 will be able to live, work, or study in the nation.

This visa was made available for expressions of interest for one year, beginning March 15, 2022. New adjustments were implemented in 2023, including extending the deadline for family members to submit expressions of interest until March 15, 2024.

According to the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment, about 1,674 Special Ukraine Visas have been issued since the special category was established on January 29 of this year.
